It’s not easy to take the place of Carmine and Lorenzo who were busy on other tours and couldn’t fill their duty with the Riccardo Grosso Band.
Anyway David Brunnbauer (on drums) and Nic Gaito (on bass) did the best job they could deliver and helped your truly to thrill Austrian audiences (new ones and already met before) again this time.
Here’s a translation of the article posted on Meinberzik.at about the show at Limmitationes:
“Blues filled the jazz cellar of Gasthof Pummer with an intense and powerful sound as the Riccardo Grosso Blues Quartet delivered a raw, energetic and rock-driven performance.
HEILIGENKREUZ. Staying true to classic blues structures in 4/4 or 6/8 time, with the blues harmonica serving as lead, accompaniment and musical dialogue, the band guided the audience through a shared sonic journey. The nearly two-hour concert remained engaging throughout, highlighting the strong chemistry among the musicians and their ability to connect deeply with the audience.
Frontman and singer Riccardo Grosso recalls the intensity and vocal edge of Tom Waits. His uncompromising performance moves at times toward rap-inflected phrasing, with the harmonica in constant dialogue with both voice and band. The encore, performed collectively and marked by polyphonic and polyrhythmic elements, evoked the image of a train crossing wide open plains or a melody drifting in from afar—bringing the evening to a powerful and warmly applauded close.”
PS: The names Carmine Bloisi and Laurenzo Miatto were taken from the official press kit. For this specific concert, however, they were replaced by David Brunnbauer and Nic Gaito.
